Dr. McQuillan welcomes referrals for patients requiring specialist assessment in nephrology and general internal medicine. All patients should be referred by their GP.
Booking an Appointment
GP Referral
Appointments with Robert McQuillan are available by GP referral only.
If you are experiencing symptoms or have concerns about your heart rhythm, please speak with your GP. If appropriate, your GP can refer you directly for assessment. Referrals can be made by telephone, Healthmail, or email.
Confirmation
Once your referral has been received, the relevant clinic team will contact you to arrange an appointment.
You will be offered the earliest suitable appointment at your selected clinic location. If additional information is required, the clinic may contact your GP prior to confirming your appointment.

What to Bring to Your Appointment
Please bring the following items with you to your consultation:
List of Current Medications
Include all prescribed medications, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements, along with current doses if available.
Recent Blood Test Results
If you have had recent blood tests or investigations, bringing copies can help avoid unnecessary repeat testing.
Health Insurance Details
Please bring your health insurance information to allow the practice team to process your consultation correctly.
Photo Identification
Photo ID is required for Medical Negligence & Medical Legal appointments.
Any Relevant Medical Records
Hospital letters, clinic correspondence, or investigation reports related to your condition may be helpful.
What to Expect
During your appointment, Dr. McQuillan will take time to understand your medical history and current concerns.
Review Your Medical History and Referral
Your referral and medical background will be reviewed in detail to ensure a clear understanding of your health issues.
Conduct a Thorough Physical Examination
A focused physical examination will be performed where appropriate.
Discuss Your Symptoms and Concerns
You will have the opportunity to discuss your symptoms, questions, and any concerns about your condition or treatment.
Explain Your Diagnosis and Treatment Options
Findings will be explained clearly, along with recommended investigations or management options.
Order Any Necessary Investigations (Blood Tests, Scans, Etc.)
Further tests such as blood work or imaging may be arranged if required.
Develop a Personalised Management Plan
A tailored treatment or monitoring plan will be agreed based on your individual needs.
Provide a Detailed Report to Your GP
A written report outlining findings and recommendations will be sent to your GP after your appointment.
Cancellations & Rescheduling
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice by calling the practice office. This allows us to offer the appointment to another patient.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Dr. McQuillan and the practice team are committed to protecting your privacy. All personal and medical information is handled in strict accordance with GDPR and medical confidentiality guidelines.
Insurance & Payment
Dr. McQuillan is recognised by all major private health insurers in Ireland.
Please check your insurance coverage level and confirm that outpatient consultations with a consultant nephrologist/physician are covered under your plan. Some policies may require pre-authorisation.
Patients without health insurance are welcome and will be charged standard consultation fees. Please contact the practice for fee information.
